Oral surgery is any surgical procedure that treats dental problems affecting your gum tissue, underlying jawbone, and teeth. Dr. Artaza is an experienced dentist with a strong background in oral surgery.
At Artaza Dental, he and his team have invested in the latest oral surgery technologies, including the PreXion3D Excelsior CBCT Scanner. This cone-beam scanner allows Dr. Artaza and the team to properly view the underlying structures of your teeth. This enables them to do more precise surgeries related to endodontics, periodontics, and implantology.

Dr. Artaza and the team offer several types of oral surgery at their office, including:
During a bone graft, Dr. Artaza removes a small portion of bone from one area of your mouth and places it in another. These grafts make up for the bone loss in your jaw and tooth-supporting structures. The most common reason patients need a bone graft is to prepare for dental implant surgery.
Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. These implants, made of titanium, are screwed directly into your jawbone during surgery. Dr. Artaza inserts the implant into your jawbone through the socket (empty space) left behind by your missing tooth. Once placed, these implants fuse to your jawbone and, in time, serve as the roots for replacement teeth.
Much like bone grafts, a tissue graft involves taking tissue from one area of your mouth and placing it in an area where you lack healthy tissue. Tissue grafts commonly treat gum disease, also called periodontal disease. Gum disease is a gum infection that can lead to receding gums. To treat receding gums, Dr. Artaza can do a tissue graft.
While a simple extraction isn’t a surgical procedure, you might need to undergo a surgical tooth extraction if your tooth is impacted — stuck beneath the gum line. If you have an impacted tooth, Dr. Artaza makes an incision in your gum tissue to expose and remove it.
A root canal is done to save an abscessed tooth. It involves removing infected or inflamed tissue from inside your tooth, disinfecting the tooth’s interior, and filling it with gutta-percha, a natural rubbery substance. The tooth is then sealed or capped to prevent further infection.
